A

leopard, 2 elephants deadTNN 19 July 2009, 10:42pm IST

MYSORE: It was a black Sunday in the wildlife arena as a leopard and two

elephants died in separate incidents.

A leopard that attacked six persons was killed by villagers at Neeluvagi in

Sargur. Also, two elephants met watery grave near the tourist spot

Gaganachukki Falls in Malavalli.

Around 10 am, the four-year-old leopard began its attack spree. The first

victim was Nagaraju who was working in his fields. When it came back to the

same fields after sometime and attacked four others, enraged villagers hit

it with sharp weapons. It died around 3 pm. The injured persons are being

treated at the government hospital in Heggadadevanakote.

Meanwhile, two elephants were found dead in Cauvery waters near Ganagachukki

falls. As the discharge from Kabini Dam was still high, the bodies were not

removed. The bodies will be extricated after the flow of water comes down,

an official stated.
