Guest guest
*The Secretary, Animal Welfare Board of India wrote a letter to the District administration, Satara about this event :-* ** *Sir,* *AWBI has received reliable information about a state level 'BULLOCK CART RACE' organized in at " Bijawadi Village, Man Taluka, District Satara " on 13th of this month.* *As you are aware, these bullocks go through horrific trauma & pain during the races. The bullock owners force feed them eggs for better power but the bullocks are vegetarians, owners keep the bullock in black so that they become ferocious during race, they force feed them alcohol to run fast before races. They beat the bullock till the bloods come out from body. * *Past incidents shown that the bullock even shooted by guns when they lose the race or even acid has thrown on them when they lose the race. Many people get injured, disabled, even killed during the races. * *Conduct of Cruel sports like Cattle races, Bullock cart races are clear violation of prevention of Cruelty to Animals act and subjecting animals to cruelty are punishable offence under PCA act. You are hereby requested to take appropriate action to prevent any cruelty to animals failing which AWBI would be forced to initiate appropriate action under relevant rules and regulations. It is also brought to your notice that as per the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, New Delhi letter no.F.No.30/9/2006-WELFARE dated 26.5.2008, it is informed that " if any Govt. Servant indulges in act of cruelty to animals he will be making himself liable for action under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Besides, punishment under the Act, he would also make himself liable for action under CCS (Conduct) Rules for conduct unbecoming of a Govt. Servant.* *-- With Warm Regards, D.Rajasekar,IFS Secretary, Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, 13/1 3rd Seaward street, Valmiki Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai 600 041.
