Guest guest
*The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual.-- *Vince Lombardi** * * Mr. Russi Mody, President of the People for Animals Calcutta (PFA) and Chairman Emeritus of the Compassionate Crusaders Trust (CCT) is pleased to make the following statement for the direction and record of all concerned. The Trusts, PFA and CCT are formed to serve animals in distress, and also to fight for their rights to live in harmony with human society. The actual services to the distressed animals are rendered and managed by our 'Team' of dedicated care-givers, Para-veterinarians, Veterinarians and our Executives. It may be clarified here, once and for all, that though the Trustees of PFA & CCT, i.e. our 'Board' pays the 'Team' some compensations for the time they devote and also to ensure their full-time attention to the assigned jobs; for the sake of the right working spirit, they should never be considered as our 'paid employees' and the 'Board' the 'employer.' For the last 15 years of our existence our 'Team' has rendered excellent service to the animal/human community and has enhanced our reputation globally, as amongst the best service organizations in the world. The 'Board' is merely a custodian of the public fund/grant which is accrued, and to give direction to subsequent proper utilization of it for the cause of the distressed animals. * Regretful Farewells and Warm Welcomes* It was with profound regret that our President, Mr. Russi Mody wrote to our four Co-opted Trustees, to thank them for their kind cooperation and support during their three years tenure. Mr. B.D.Sureka, Mr. M.K.Jalan, Mr.B.N.Garodia and Mr. Bulbul Shah are all highly respected, eminent personalities. All of us are very grateful for their contribution of time and donations for helping animals. Mr. Bulbulbhai's contribution has been particularly laudable. It was he who located an Italian company that makes vegan cat food, and contacted them. He also contributed generously to the additional financial burden imposed on the Trust, for importing this food. Ventilation Engineering Co. and Flexible Hose Industries Pvt. Ltd., owned by Mr. Shah gave financial support which started many years ago and has been generous and steady at every occasion. The Board of Trustees extends a very warm welcome to the three new co-opted Trustees. Mr. Namit Shah, Mr. Arjun Kumar, and Mr. Kaushik Chatterjee. Their youthful presence will, no doubt, bring a fresh dynamism and impetus to the Trust. This is particularly needed in view of the fact that two of our stalwarts – Mr. Mahesh Shah and Mrs. Purnima Toolsidass – are unable to participate as of yore, due to health reasons. * * *LORDING IT ALL* A true testament to the resilience of the human spirit lies in the tale of Debabrata Sarkar, aka Lord. Lord lost his father Bibek Brata Sarkar, the first supervisor of the Compassionate Crusaders Trust Tollygunge Clinic, at the tender age of 9, when he was studying in class III. However, this sudden shock in the youngster's formative years did not take away his desire to do well in studies. This year, Lord proved his mettle by passing the Madhyamik examination in 1st Divisionof the West Bengal Board from Rahara Ramkrishna Mission Boys' Home School. Lord's mother, Gitasree Sarkar, has been working as a supervisor in our Tollygunge Clinic, which was built almost single handedly by her husband on the erstwhile Old Russa Road Pump Room gifted by Calcutta Municipal Corporation. Kudos to the efforts of this tenacious individual! Excalibur, July, 2008, Quarterly Newsletter of People for Animals, Calcutta
