Guest guest
Note from Moderator: I said last week that I would not allow this thread to continue as it is not appropriate to this list. I have rejected most posts on the subject but I did let a few through. But this one from Vanessa is definitely the last - she can have the last word! I am happy to continue to argue about meat-eating with anyone who wishes to e-mail me privately. John. From Vanessa: I understood the purpose of this list to be to promote animal welfare and combat abuse. If the purpose were to promote child welfare and combat child abuse, would we regard arguments in favour of killing and eating children as appropriate in order to ensure a " balanced view " ? Humane slaughter is arguably intended for the benefit of the animal to reduce the amount of suffering involved. Arguments in favour of meat eating relate to a (perceived) " benefit " for the consumer, not the victim. The two are thus not comparable. I agree entirely that silly arguments in favour of eating others need to be challenged and exploded, but there are plenty of accomplished veg*n scientists well able to do so and plenty of groups devoted to that purpose. If can find anything he feels is genuine scientific argument amid the personal/anecdotal and religious/mythological material he sought to post, perhaps he could direct me to the relevant passage privately and I will try to help. Meanwhile, I trust that this list will continue to focus on the protection of animals in Asia. Anyway, it is your list so you decide but I am a bit disturbed by your stance on the vegan/vegetarian issue for the article I posted presented reasoned arguments.
