Guest guest
" endangered " , what a beautiful word! Thousands of " endangered " dogs and cats are being culled under the bloody hands of Chinese officials and people, for the earthquake, for the olympic, for " diseases " , for food, for fur, for everything imaginable..... I can bet for the next stock market crash, these Chinese devils will put the blame on dogs and cats, ...or whoever that " creeps upon the Earth " . Hypocrites! Shame on them !!! Shame on being a human being living on the same land. ------- (CN) Wayward panda caught after fleeing reserve Tue, 27 May 2008 11:39:13 +0800 David Wong <ky aapn <aapn > Wayward panda caught after fleeing reserve Agence France Presse in Beijing and Staff Reporter Updated on May 27, 2008 A giant panda missing from a nature reserve since a massive earthquake hit Sichuan two weeks ago has been recaptured. A team of workers repairing roads saw Xixi, one of two pandas from the Wolong Panda Reserve still at large, playing near a river not far from the park, the Beijing News reported. But before a rescue team from the park had time to capture Xixi, the endangered animal fled and disappeared into a clump of trees, the newspaper added. Later yesterday the rescue team managed to recapture Xixi. The Wolong reserve, home to dozens of pandas, is one of the largest breeding centres in the world. No pandas are believed to have died in the earthquake. But three workers at the reserve, 30km from the epicentre of the quake, lost their lives and six pandas went missing. Including Xixi, five have since been found. Pandas at the reserve have been facing food shortages since the quake, as well as continued danger from aftershocks, Xinhua said. The supply of bamboo favoured by the pandas was suspended as local residents, coping with the disaster, halted their usual gathering of the animals' favourite food. A worker at the reserve told China News Service that many pandas had become " moody and stressed " after the quake. " At first they appeared full of worry and anxiety. Then they become unhappy and distressed. Their caretakers have to spend extra time to caress them and comfort them, " the report said. Some pandas have already been removed from the centre. Six were evacuated on Friday due to food shortages and damage caused by the earthquake and were transferred to a reserve near the city of Yaan , 200km to the southwest, which was less affected by the earthquake. Eight more pandas were airlifted to the Beijing Zoo, where they will be on display during the Olympic Games in August, a transfer that was planned before the quake. The panda is one of the world's most endangered species, with an estimated 1,600 in nature parks in Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces, and 239 in captivity, according to mainland media.
