An official of the fishermen's union told us the dolphin hunters had lost $1-million during the past year due to falling demand and declining prices for dolphin meat. During the past year BlueVoice has carried out tests of mercury levels in both dolphins and citizens of Taiji who eat dolphin meat. The tests showed severely elevated levels of mercury in the people tested. That information was passed to a major Japanese magazine that published the results. The report sent shock waves all over Japan but particularly hit Taiji. BLUEVOICE returns to Japan in November to resume testing dolphin meat and people who eat dolphin - this time adding Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), chemicals such as PCBs and Dioxins, known carcinogens. It is essential we continue to test dolphins and people for contaminant levels. We will bring test results and reports translated into Japanese to present to consumers, grocery store managers, newspaper editors and government regulators. WE NEED YOUR DONATIONS TO CONTINUE THIS TESTING <http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001WTCbKHw2eGG4ucxJcqyui4E8xj6Mm4rw7N9eafJRUR-Qsqpj4TcD\ ag5dYSEwe47Crm3Sxm2xpDKk108stq3jJ35C84eUZzcAxe2sktOpwrNY_RcZNdU71pLE0eeqjSLw> Tests for POPs can cost several thousand dollars each. If we can prove that dolphin eaters not only absorb large quantities of mercury but also POPs our argument that dolphin meat is unhealthy will be amplified. The dolphin killing can be brought to an end. PLEASE HELP TAIJI CONTINUES TO EXPORT DOLPHINS Two to China for a total price of $100,000, four bottlenose dolphins to the United Arab Emirates - total price US$320,000, three Pacific White-sided dolphins, total price $120,000, to Dalien, China. Two bottlenose dolphins to Shanghai at no cost (probably to replace dolphins previously shipped who have died). If we stop the hunt for food, we can reduce the hunt for dolphins for captivity.
