Animal activist’s attempt to stop train foiled

GUWAHATI, May 4 – City Police today prevented a bid by animal rights

activist Sangeeta Goswami to stop a train on the portion between Azara and

Gorchuk.

 

Goswami was trying to stop the train to highlight the danger posed to

wildlife, especially elephants, by trains in the area. Several elephants

have died after being hit by trains in the area in the past few years – the

latest fatality being an elephant calf that was struck by a train a few days

back.
