Guest guest
Dear Friends, Today it will be decided whether TAPA (Tsunami Animal People Alliance) will be permitted by the KMC (Kandy Municipal Council) to spay/neuter dogs and cats in Kandy. Dr.Jayasinghe, the KMC-Vet is trying his best to prevent it, while complaining that Kandy has too many strays, for which in his view SOFA is responsible because we have gone to courts against him when he was trying to get rid of the dogs by killing them. We have no way of explaining the logic of this person, can only hope that the Mayor of Kandy will stick to his word, which he gave to the Governor of the Central Province on Monday, to allow TAPA to work in Kandy. Unfortunately the Mayor seems to depend very much on Dr.Jayasinghe for " advice " : two months ago too, the present sponsor of TAPA has offered TAPA-services to Kandy, the Mayor initially welcomed this help for his community, but then Dr:Jayasinghe heard about it and made him turn down the offer. At that time the Governor of the Province was abroad and could not intervene and so the offer was made to Gampola, a smaller city near Kandy and the Mayor of Gampola was very grateful, that TAPA fixed another 500 dogs in town even though the same sponsor, who is sponsoring TAPA now, has already funded weekly field-clinics for Gampola last year too and got more than 2000 animals done. This time the order to accept the TAPA -offer came from the Governor of the Province and the Mayor seemed to oblige on Monday, but last three days Dr:Jayasinghe has been " working " on him. by today afternoon we will know who really rules Kandy. we will let you know tomorrow. For us TAPA's services, whether in Kandy or any other place in the district, are a great blessing because our funds, time and personal resources are very limited and there is much more to do than we can manage. During the last 6 years due to our field-clinics our phone-numbers have become very much known everywhere in the area and our phones are ringing every day: dogs to be spayed, puppies to be rescued, accident-victims to be taken care of, we have our hands full, and not only the transit-home located at the former KMC-dog-pound is full of dogs, but also our private homes. We have some very faithful donors, who have supported us as much as they can all these years, but this year one of them is unable to help and therefore we have no funds at all for the month of August and appeal for help urgently. therefore please pass on this mail and refer to our website for more details as well as account-details: www.sofakandy.org <http://www.sofakandy.org/> Thank you Padma (Treasurer SOFA)
