Finally the Lko Zoo authorities have woken up to avoid incurring further

damages. I guess they ultimately realized that `Prince' and other inmates are

quiet invaluable to them. But how long will this step to curb the nuisance

continue being feasible and effective???? Let's just hope it does! Because all

they need to do is make a spoon or spoil a horn i.e. make a determined effort to

stop the menace whatever the cost.

Buy refund coupon to carry plastic inside zoo

19 Jun 2009, 0354 hrs IST, TNN

LUCKNOW: Carrying a water bottle and a polythene bag inside city zoo will now

require shelling out Rs 20 extra for a refund coupon. Taking note

of the report published in the TOI that plastic bottles are blatantly being

thrown inside the enclosures of zoo inmates and there is hardly anyone to check,

the authorities have taken action. The refund coupon will act as a check against

such activities.

Visitors will be able to claim Rs 20 back only when they deposit the bottles,

cans and polythene bags at ticket counters at the time of leaving. It will not

be possible to enter the premises without a refund coupon. It might just be the

first step towards bridling the unruly visitors.

Zoo has already lost its two inmates in the past after they had swallowed

polythene. Latest, the lion Prince was caught on camera with two plastic bottles

in his mouth. The TOI team found several bottles, polythene packets and tin cans

lying inside many of the animals' enclosures.

Though a ban on polythene exists but it has not helped much. Few other measures

might be in the offing to keep check on visitors' activities that could be

harmful for zoo inmates.
