Guest guest
This appalling data comes from the United Nations Environment Program/Wildlife Conservation Monitoring Center's database of CITES trade. It shows that Laos has entered the monkey trade in a big way. Under IPPL's radar so I'd be interested in any information any list members have. 2006, 100 live crab-eating macaques from Laos to China 2007, 7700 live crab-eating macaques from Laos to China 2007, 800 live crab-eating macaques from Laos to Vietnam God knows what's happening this year. It is likely that many of these Laotian monkeys are reaching world markets, including the United States, from China. I understand there are three dealerships operating in Laos, but don't have their names. For those unfamiliar with this database, as I was, it is not easy to work with at first, it's located at http://www.unep-wcmc.org/citestrade/novice.cfm?CFID=28257053 & CFTOKEN=30495897 If this doesn't work, just start with http://www.unep-wcmc.org and you can locate the CITES trade section.
