(IN) Police to register case against Maneka's NGO

Dear friends,

A pet shop owner has sought registration of an FIR against Maneka Gandhi and

members of her NGO, People For Animals, for allegedly creating hurdles in

the running of his business. A few months after Ashok Pratap Rai, who runs

an exotic bird, aquarium, fish and pet shop, moved Delhi High Court seeking

registration of an FIR against the MP and five members of her NGO for

allegedly ‘‘barging into his shop and hurling abusive language’’ at his

wife, Delhi Police recently submitted a status report informing the HC about

what action they were taking in the matter. In the status report filed

recently by DCP Vigilance before Justice Mool Chand Garg, the police said,

‘‘Commissioner of Police, Delhi has ordered the Crime Branch to register a

case and investigate the accused persons under relevant sections.’’ The

court had earlier issued notice to all the respondents in the

case.Meanwhile, Maneka Gandhi filed a counter affidavit on the allegations

of the petitioner. The matter had come up before the registrar’s court of

the Delhi HC on Friday for the petitioner to file its rejoinder in the case.
