Guest guest
Dear All, This is to inform you that NDTV India conducted a special interview today with the Head of TRAFFIC INDIA, Mr Samir Sinha for broadcasting on NDTV India News at 6.00pm and 10.30 pm(Indian Standard Time). The interview was on the implications of opening the Chinese trade in tiger products in view of the China visit of Mr Jairam Ramesh, Indian Environment Minister. Mr Sinha emphasised the position of TRAFFIC/WWF, the Indian government and CITES, in alliance with that of all the other conservation and animal welfare groups that are part of the International Tiger Coalition, ie., the only level of trade in tiger parts in China that is deemed sustainable is 'zero level' trade or 'no trade'. The latest CITES notification also reiterates the stance taken by the parties at the last CoP in Hague in 2007 via Resolution Number 14.69 : " Tigers should not be bred for trade in their parts and derivatives. " This issue will doubtless emerge at the next CoP in Qatar and the world must stay united to deliver China a message, loudly and cogently : " Tigers should not be bred for trade in their parts and derivatives. " If any of you catch the item on television, kindly let me know how it goes. Regards,
