1. FROM THE DESK OF HONY. PRESIDENT:

 

PAWS is in need of money again. Every day PAWS handles average 5 rescue

calls including reptiles and strays in distress. Fuel is the main

component of our expenditure along with repairs, salaries,

administration, phone bills, medicines & hospitalization. All these add

up to a considerable amount.

I request you all earnestly to contribute towards the cause. Please send

the cheques in the name of 'Plant & Animals Welfare Society' & send it

to A-18, Savitri Sadan, Dr. Mukahrji Road, Dombivli (East) 421201. We do

not have major donors and I appreciate your help when PAWS needs funds.

3. OUR RESCUE NOTES:

 

## Our snake rescue cell team is rescued a total of 50 Snakes, species

including Cobra, Rat Snake, Russell's viper, kukri, Krait, Stripped Keel

back & Checkered Keel Back. All were released in their appropriate

habitat within 24 hours after due intimation to range forest department.

PAWS Team consisting Manish, Nilesh, Kedar, Bhushan, Anish, Subhash are

exclusively working with PAWS for snake rescue.

 

## PAWS office received information about a monkey bleeding from mouth,

PAWS founder suggested to contact the Animal Welfare Activist Jinesh

Shah, who immediately came & rescued the monkey with his expertise. The

monkey was seriously ill & immediately taken to BSPCA Animal hospital

On 27th August, another small rhesus monkey found abandoned by some

madari at Thakurli west area. The baby was frightened & dogs were

chasing her. PAWS volunteers Darshak & Kedar rushed to spot and rescued

the monkey & later hospitalized at Bombay SPCA for further rehab.

On 31st August PAWS office received a call for another monkey with

broken teeth abandoned near Bramhand Complex, Azad Nagar was caught by

PAWS volunteers which was later handed over to Borivli National Park for

further rehab on 31st August 2009 by volunteer Anish Gurjar.

 

## From the start of the rainy season, a lot of birds have been found in

distress, and our staff has been busy in attending the rescue calls.

PAWS office received a total of 5 pigeons for first aid, 1 kite, 5

sparrows, 1 mynah, 2 Crows, 1 Barn Owl & 1 saluki was rescued by PAWS

volunteers Dhanjay, Kedar, Saurabh, Manish, Neetu & Avinash

 

# YUVA founder Sanmit made a request call to PAWS on 10th August

regarding a donkey which was lying injured in Dombivli (W); Since PAWS

van was at Karjat that day, PAWS hired a tempo & transported the donkey

to hospital.

 

# On 31st August PAWS office received a call from KDMC that one pony

with broken leg lying at Doodh Naka Kalyan, PAWS send its second

ambulance to pick-up the pony. The pony was given first aid by

volunteers and shifted to BSPCA by PAWS for treatment as it was

amputation case and there is no such facility available in Thane

district.

 

 

4. AS PRESS VIEWS US:

 

# On 4th August, PAWS volunteer Kedar informed that 2 calves are lying

injured outside the slaughterhouse in kalyan. PAWS immediately swung

into action & tried to rescue the calf, the story came in Mumbai Mirror

newspaper.

5. MONTHLY ANTI-RABIES DRIVE - THANE, KALYAN, DOMBIVLI:

 

# On 2nd August, Volunteer Jayesh Gawale & others look after the stray

dogs in Runwal plaza complex in Thane. This is the 6th consecutive year

when PAWS organized anti-rabies drive in same area. All dogs in the

complex were vaccinated by Team comprising Jayshree, Shreya, Dipti,

Kartick, Darshak, Anusharee, Preeti Indurkar, Anahita, Avinash, Suyog,

Shilpa, Saurabh Chougule, Akshay, Sachin & Reshma assisted Dr. Yaduraj

Khadpekar for this vaccination drive.

 

# On 16th August, PAWS team comprising of Neetu, Anushree, Rehsma,

Pratima, Shantanu, Kedar, Sachin, Kartick, Nitish & Avinash along with

Dr. Yaduraj vaccinated the stray dogs near Saket college area in Kalyan

east. PAWS Trustee & Treasurer Ms. Poornima & volunteer Alwayn look

after many strays in colony.

 

#Another Anti-rabies was organized on 30th August by PAWS volunteers in

Dombivli wherein PAWS volunteers Mrs. Amita kulkarni, Raj Mithapara,

Chaitali Thakur looks after stray dogs in Pendse nagar area. All the

dogs were vaccinated against rabies. PAWS volunteers Avinash, Saurabh,

Anish, Shreya, Sonali, Preeti, Kedar Nitish & Nilesh joined Dr. Yaduraj

for the Vaccination.

 

 

6. DONKEY HEALTH CHECK-UP & VACCINATION CAMP - THANE:

 

PAWS office received an e-mail from Thane resident Salil Navghare, that

some donkeys were employed for work in Thane. PAWS team decided to hold

health-checkup cum vaccination drive for those donkeys. On 2nd august,

team comprising Shreya, Jayshree, Darshak, Anahita, Kartick, Anushree,

Avinash, Sachin & Reshma participated in camp and helped more then 38

donkeys also few donkeys were treated for bruises by Dr. Yaduraj. Salil

became PAWS volunteer after attending the camp.

 

 

7. SOCIETY FEEDING / PET DOG ISSUES / CRUELTY CASES:

 

# PAWS office received a call from Kalyan's Radhanagar CHS, Ms. Aditi

raja, that 1 tree is chopped off for celebration of Ganesha festival in

her society, PAWS wrote a stern letter to society & society regretted in

reply that one branch is chopped of unintentionally. The concerned

person was already fined by the kalyan police station, so the matter was

solved amicably.

 

# Ms. Catharine Gabriel a resident of Rambaug lane who looks after few

stray dogs in society area sent a compliant to PAWS office that her

society members beat the dogs. PAWS as usual wrote a very stern letter

to kaveri housing society, now society members do not harm strays any

more but we are keeping vigil.

 

# Yatin Mhatre, a resident of Lok Puram Complex, Thane received notice

from row-house association that he cannot feed the dogs, and look after

them. Mr. Mhatre is very dedicated activist from thane, who does not

only look after the strays but if any dog dies naturally in complex, he

buries them in his own row-house ground, also catches the snakes in

complex & leave them in wild area. On his request, PAWS wrote a very

stern letter to society & now Mr. Mhatre has become PAWS volunteer.

 

 

8. FUNDRAISING EVENTS - PARYUSHAN FESTIVAL 2009:

 

# On 9th - Saurabh Chougule along with Sonali Bagade and Darshak Shah

Collected all old Newspaper from Dombivli West paws supporters, and

raised Few Thousands for PAWS. We whole heartedly thank for their

initiative for their Charity.

 

# On 24th - Darshak Shah, Preeti Indurkar and Prabhu Shrungare raised

Funds by Standing near Jain Temple and raised Few Thousands which helped

PAWS to run its Day to Day Ambulance Service.

 

9. INTERNATIONAL HOMELESS ANIMALS DAY - 19TH AUGUST 2009:

 

PAWS Organised Drawing competition in Holy Angels School, St. Joseph

school, Gurukul, Greens School, Arunoday, Children Academy wherein

children drew animal sketches. Over 500 students actively participated

in this event to make it a great success.

This was a small fund raising activity for PAWS as children also

contributed to PAWS.

 

10. CONFERENCE / WORKSHOPS / AWARENESS:

# On 14th August Darshak Shah, Anushree Parmeshwaran & Karthik Thevar

visited to Roxanne's Tera Animal Trust at Neral organized by Darshak to

know how Horse hove cleaning is must or else it will get infected.

Everybody enjoyed the training.

# On 21st August Sonali Akshay & Avinash visited LAKHMIBEN HANSRAJ

LATWALLA SPECIAL CARE CENTRE @ Bandra kurla Complex to make children

Aware of PAWS and about Animals. Every student enjoyed the program, It

was challenging task for PAWS volunteers as the students were Deaf &

Mute. Thanks to Teachers of L.H.L.S.C.C. who helped PAWS volunteers in

explaining the students. Over 60 Students benefited by the program.

# Celebrity Choreographer Sandeep Soparrkar supports PAWS activities. In

an exclusive testimonial written to Plants & Animals Welfare Society

(PAWS), the Jodha Akbar choreographer expressed his heartfelt gratitude

referring it as one of the die-hard NGOs that stood on its feet in spite

of all the hard times.

 

# On 12th of August, International Youth Day is celebrated across the

world, on this day PAWS suggested to all PAWS volunteers, fellow NGO'S

to became vegetarian, recycle, segregate the waste by designing a

beautiful poster by PAWS volunteers Priyanka Angotra and Sneha Poojari.

# Blue Cross of India and WSPA sent a letter to PAWS informing the

Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare. PAWS wrote the request letter

to all MP's of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune & Nasik to support the

'Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare' when it comes to pass in

Parliament. Later was also sent to some of members of Rajya Sabha

including Hema Malini.

# On 30th august Media student from Sophaya college Ms. Ishani visited

PAWS office n interacted with Mr. Nilesh Bhanage - founder of PAWS &

gathered information about vision, working style, volunteerism with PAWS

as part of her college project. PAWS volunteer Darshak and Nilesh gave

all information required to her.

 

11. CRUELTY INVESTIGATION:

 

~ PAWS received extensive information that a NGO from Nashik had

presented a proposal to CWW of Maharashtra for snake venom extraction.

PAWS opposed this new venom collection project as there were no

scientific studies made while making proposal. This will result in

illegal trafficking of snakes to Nasik. PAWS wrote a letter to CWW

Maharshtra as well as forest minister to immediate stop any further

action. PAWS also wrote an e-mail to all known NGO's.

 

~ PAWS volunteer Kedar Marathe gave information about 2 calves which

were lying in paralytic condition outside municipal slaughter house in

Kalyan. PAWS trustee Manasi Bhanage & volunteer Parinita Joshi rushed to

the spot. They came to know that the 2 cows were already slaughtered & 2

calves were now going to face the same fate. PAWS called its ambulance

to pick-up the calves. Till that time the butchers arrived. They threw

one calf in a truck while Manasi & Parinita fought with them. A huge mob

gathered. Before Mansi n Parinita could rescue the calves, the butchers

strangled them and assaulted both mansi n parinita before running away

in the tempo. PAWS volunteers Prasad, shreya, Darshak, Saurabh, Kaizad &

samir reached to spot. An FIR has been registered against butchers.

After our correspondence with Municipal Corporation, another cow which

was brought for slaughter was caught by police in sumo next week. Below
