Tusker runs amok at Anakotta

 

The tusker that ran amok and jumped into a pond at the Punnathur Anakotta in

Guruvayur on Wednesday.

GURUVAYUR: Elephant Guruvayur Madhavankutty ran amok at the Punnathur

�Anakotta� and created panic among the public for around two hours on

Wednesday.

 

According to livestock manager T V Soman, the tusker ran amok and jumped

into a pond after mahout Mohanan, who was in an inebriated condition,

unchained and beat it. Fortunately, the visitors at the Anakotta were

unhurt.

 

Later, Devaswom mahouts N Babu, P Raman Sathyapalan and Mohanan chained the

tusker using a catching belt.

 

Devaswom chairman Thotathil Raveendran said that a complaint was filed with

the Guruvayur police against the mahout.

 

A police team led by Guruvayur CI S Abhilash and SIs M Surendran and

Srinivasan controlled the visitors at the Anakotta to enable the mahouts to

chain the tusker.

 

Mahout Mohanan has been suspended and a case has been registered in

connection with the incident.

 

The police have taken three mahouts of the elephant for questioning.
