Varda Mehrotra is my friend and an animal rights activist based in Scotland.

She is the daughter of R N Mehrotra, Chief Wildlife Warden of Rajasthan. She

runs an animal rights group in Scotland called Bunny Huggers. Does

anybody know anything about this road disturbing wildlife?

Hi ,

Hope things are well with you? Life seems busier with WWF, and all sounds

very exciting!

Not sure if you know but there's a highway going right through the Sariska

national park in Rajasthan. Not only does this disturbs animals and their

environment but more seriously causes (often fatal) injuries and opens up

doors to poaching and illegal trade. Hard has it has been to re-introduce

tigers there, the highway is simply too dangerous to go through a forest!

As far as I understand, an alternative bypass is in place - but locals have

recently stepped up their protest against closing off the one going through

the forest. And the minister is not very supportive towards the

environmental and wildlife aspects.

I was thinking, however, if environmental organisations could get

letters/emails etc written and/or a petition created geared towards the

minister? I am suggesting these things because they dont take much to do.

Would WWF be interested and/or any other organisations you know of in India?

Thanks, I'd appreciate your support - I've been to Sariska more times I can

remember, and its a beautiful sanctuary, worth protecting of its own accord!

Hope all else is well,

Varda
