Guest guest
Dear AAPN Readers, Last year at the AfA Conference in Bali I spoke with several of you about how AAPN was diverging from its original mission of providing a forum for news and discussion on Asian animal issues. We discussed various remedies. The time has come for me to make decisions. Basically, AAPN has become overloaded with items from a single country and readers from countries other than India are unsubscribing. With immediate effect, AAPN will no longer carry items that would be more appropriate on a national forum such as FIAPO. Of course many purely national items are of great interest to those in other countries and I hope you will still send these in. Also to be disallowed are items such as climate change and environmental degradation which are only tangentially related to animal welfare and animal rights - there are other forums for these. Please also try to remember to insert the country's code letters in the subject line. I hope these changes will make for an easier and more interesting read for the wider Asian audience. Best wishes. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, Many thanks to John Wedderburn for the forum that he provides through AAPN and all the very conscientious work that goes into it. We¹d like to invite anyone in India to post content relating exclusively to Indian animals on the Forum of the India group on the Best Friends Network. We¹ll be very happy to have postings, especially from those of you who regularly contribute to AAPN. The Forum site is new, so you will not see a lot of previous postings. In the News section of the India group, you will find a great many stories about the work of animal organizations in India. (Some of these were carried over from the previous Network, which existed for several years.) To post on the Forum, you¹ll need to join the Network (membership is free), then you can post. India Forum: http://network.bestfriends.org/golocal/india/forum/default.aspx India Group Home Page: http://network.bestfriends.org/golocal/india/default.aspx India News: http://network.bestfriends.org/golocal/india/news Guidelines for posting to Forum: Postings must relate to animal issues in India. Please read the terms and agreements, which do not allow graphic content. (This is important, please omit graphic descriptions of cruelty or suffering of animals before posting, or we¹ll have to delete the whole post. We don¹t have the ability to edit it.) You may write about any issue‹just without graphic descriptions. Put ³...² in a text where you have omitted some of the text. Postings must be entirely in your own words‹and may not include words or text previously published online, in print, or anywhere. You may summarize published text in your own words and give the link. Online articles cannot be posted‹only the link and a summary. There is no vetting process. Your post will appear when you create it (and will stay up unless it contains graphic content or otherwise violates the terms of agreement). You are entirely welcome to give your views and any facts or news about any animal issue or about your organization‹or pursue any related discussions. Readership: The Best Friends Network has 77,000 members; however, as you¹ll see by looking at the News section for India, so far, only around 100 read most of the India news stories. These include animal lovers from all countries. We anticipate that the number of readers, especially within India, will grow exponentially in the coming months‹and the more postings and discussions there are, the more readers and participants will be drawn to the Forum. As is the case for all other regions and countries on the Network, the intent is to provide an open Forum, where animal advocates in India can exchange views and information about animals in India. Although this site is not located in Asia; it¹s not in the West either, it¹s in cyberspace. We¹ll look forward to seeing you there! Many thanks to John Wedderburn for the incredible dedication and work that he devotes to AAPN and the valuable service that it provides. For everyone elsewhere in Asia, please take a look at the East Asia group on the Best Friends Network: http://network.bestfriends.org/golocal/eastasia Many thanks!
