Guest guest
Just in. -------------------------- Mon, 28 Sep 2009 00:44:28 -0700 (PDT) Anna Nieves Cabrera <annahcabrera PAWS Philippines update in the midst of disaster brought by typhoon Just to assure you that the PAWS shelter has not been affected by the flood. Nita and I - our homes are okay, and not affected too. Two of PAWS' directors have not been as lucky. They are still stuck in the second floor of their house with their 60 rescued animals as I type this. I am trying desperately to get a helicopter to rescue PAWS directors Heidi Guzon and Gwen Protasio - who are trapped in the 2nd floor of Heidi's house with her 50+ rescued cats and 8 dogs. They have not eaten for two days. Their location is #11 Emerald Street, Liamzon Subdivision, De Castro Avenue, Pasig City The head of our Disaster Relief Team, May Felix, has lost one of her dogs to the flood when her house got hit by the flash flood two days ago. PAWS has announced (on national TV and newspapers) that its shelter doors have been opened as an evacuation center for animals that have been rescued. The problem is that no one can even get in nor out of the flooded areas. So much so that only three (3)animals have been brought in to our evacuation center as of last night. We expect more rescuees coming in today and tomorrow so I am getting ready to sleep overnight at the shelter tonight. We may soon be in need of tents and cages for the animals. The PAWS shelter is very near the Disaster Area of Marikina where thousands are still stranded in their homes with their animals. Please check <http://www.paws.org.ph/>www.paws.org.ph under " Featured News " for our announcement and for our exact location, bank account number, etc for those who may be interested in donating My mobile number is 639178315970 and I will be checking my email from time to time. If you reply to this email, please copy <nitapawsnitapaws, <rich_ilustrerich_ilustre and <lizaumayamlizaumayam The PAWS Shelter has no electricity and no phone. I am only able to email you from an internet cafe. I will go back to the shelter after fully charging my celfone. In hindsight, we really need a radio for the shelter If there is a way any organization can send in a rubberboat and some life vests (I know this is close to impossible though), our volunteers who have recently been trained for water rescues in Indonesia may be able to rescue some animals. If you are unable to contact me on my mobile phone, please try contacting Mr. Rich Ilustre at 632-9242902 or at 63917-8352405 or Ms. Elsie Araneta at 63917-8551455 for more information. But better by email, i think. Thank you -Anna -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O.
