Taiwan capital plans mandatory insurance for fierce dogs: Official

TAIPEI: The Taiwan capital Taipei aims to give its dog management rules some

teeth, planning to order owners of particularly fierce canines to buy

liability insurance, an official said on Monday.

 

The proposed regulation will only affect certain breeds of dogs such as Tibetan

mastiffs, according to Chang Kai-ting, an official at the Taipei Municipal

Institute for Animal Health.

 

" As Taipei is a populous city, we need stricter rules, " she said.

 

Officials are updating the regulations after a wave of reports of dog attacks on

people in the city, some leading to severe injuries.
