Guest guest
Dear All Pls help spreading the word about this heart-rendering story & take action by supporting the Acharya family! I've already posted it on my blog, facebook & twitter account. Pls do the same. I'm also considering to get the story out to the press. Thanks for your highly appreciated & valuable support! Cheers, Yasmine D. Polomski (966 3700 264) The exemplary courage of the Acharya family By : Ms. Kuhu Roy This is the story of the case of Mr. Niranjan Acharya, his married sister, her husband and their two children, who live in Narayan Nagar, Street no. 1, near Gayatri Nagar , Rajkot. They are a family of dog lovers and feed the 5-6 community dogs of their area. On 4.11.09, a mob of around 200 persons gathered outside their home. They demanded the feeding of dogs to be stopped. They tore the T-shirt of Niranjan’s brother -in -law and poured kerosene on the whole family. Niranjan dialed 100 for help, but it did not arrive. Then he phoned the Police Commissioner. Soon after that, the mobile police van came and they tried to solve the matter there itself. As no agreement could be reached, the mob and the Acharya family went to the police station. There Niranjan filed an FIR and the mob too filed an FIR against him. Then on 10.11.09, the same members of the mob instigated the residents of a nearby Muslim colony and a crowd comprising of 25-30 Muslims arrived at Niranjan’s house. They showered expletives and threw stones. Again 100 was dialed and when the police came, the crowd went away. The police did not arrest anyone. Then the Acharya family went to meet the Police Commissioner and filed a written complaint that their Hindu neighbors were trying to disrupt the communal harmony and break the unity of Hindu-Muslims by bringing a religious angle to the whole issue. They also faxed a copy of the complaint to the Home Minister and the DGP. After that, the women neighbors threatened the male members of Niranjan’s family that if they do not stop feeding the dogs, they will make charges of sexual offences against them, to get them arrested. Just two days back, the neighbors again hit the dogs and threatened “Dekh lenge”. People wielding sticks, now block one end of the street while on the other end; they stand armed with stones to hit the dogs. They have also said that they will give poison laddus to the dogs. He says the family is under extreme mental pressure. There is the question of their physical security too. They are unable to bear the pain and sufferings of their dogs any longer. They are planning to give an application to the police to inform that they are planning a fast unto death or he said all of them will commit mass suicide. My mother rebuked him for harboring such horrible idea and has asked him to desist from taking any drastic step. Please pray for Niranjan and his family and their dogs. They are fighting tooth and nail for their dogs. they are not ready to leave their dogs despite threats to their own selves. This family has proved that humans can also be faithful and loyal to the dogs.Hats off to their courage. If this story has made you proud of this man, please call him and show your support. I will be grateful to all of you. Mr.Niranjan Acharya: 9974879226 _______________ New Windows 7: Find the right PC for you. Guest guest
I feel to get out of such problem, the dog feeding should be stopped. The dogs did ring the bell of this family to say please feed me. Showing public affection to animals by feeding the dogs which lead into such situation - my 11 years experience says. If the family really cares animals, then they should STOP feeding at least the matter gets solved or becomes cool. I am sorry if I am rude but in all this context or human conflict the poor dogs will suffer at the end. It is very easy to beat them or kill them. Guest guest
I suspect there is a lot more to this story then has been told. I doubt anyone is being persecuted for feeding community dogs. I see the practice everyday on walks with my own dog; packs of dogs lazing about in the sun in front of their favourite meat shop or open air cold store, and no human taking any notice at all. It’s really hard to imagine someone getting doused with kerosene over the practice, although I can imagine the dogs themselves being burnt alive for pestering a shopkeeper. But the dogs themselves are smart enough to go hang out where it’s relatively safe, and will just move on if things get too hot. Family feuds in this part of the world are common, and can be started over something as minor as a wall built centimetres over someone else’s property or a motorbike ding. To take one of these feuds and make an animal issue over it, or even a religious one, seems wrong. Guest guest
Yes. ideed this story has made me proud and so shall such incidents like that of Mr. Niranjan and family will be held high above as models for others to follow. What is shameful that NO 'Animal Welfare Organisation' or any 'Qualified Individual in Animal Rights/ Laws' has come forward to lodge an FIR and book the anti-socials. I wish I could make a thousand clones of Smt Maneka Gandhi and plant them throughout the country. We animal people are a sick lot if we cannot fight for animal rights, and make excuses instead. Do not we have anyone in Rajkot?? Such incidents have been dealt with FIRMLY in the city where I live- Guwahati. In the lastest incident with the support of the local magistrate and the police, I was able to beat the @$#% out of a section of lunatics who were terrorising homeless dogs in a locality, infact they event brutally murdered one such dog. But now things have changed after action was initiated against the offenders. Remember there are anti-scials in every nook and corner blowing trouble for not only animals but for mankind as well. Give them what they deserve and win the battle !! Atleast our laws are much much STRONGER than most of the Animal People alive Azam On Tue, Dec 29, 2009 at 10:43 PM, Yasmine D.
