Judging by the smell of shark fins & what I have been told by consumers about the taste, old plastic flip-flops marinaded in shoreline detritus would be indistinguishable from the real thing. -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O. Guest guest
I really like this type of thinking for a solution. This is what we have to do. I am sure we can find something as we are now on the right track. What these groups need to start doing is promoting an alternative. If an expensive humane dish (soup, preferably, perhaps) can be trumpeted as THE dish to serve at weddings, and shark fin derided as passe (and maybe even cheap by comparison), then consumers would be likely to switch. Just can't think of a very expensive vegetable dish that could supplant it . .. . truffle soup? Any thoughts?
