Help the Indian 'Wildlife Protection Act'

Calling all you good people.

 

Here is your chance to 'Help the Indian Wildlife Protection Act' (WLPA)so

that it helps in safeguarding the environment, wildlife and destitute

animals of India.

 

The WLPA shall be placed before the Indian Parliament in a few days and all

our hopes which have been forwarded as recommendations to the Government by

the expert committee can ONLY succeed if we all come forward and push this

together.

 

Please read the petition below and sign/ circulate as fast as you can, we do

not have much time.

 

Smt.Maneka Gandhi, former Union Minister for Environment & Forests and

presently a Member of the Indian Parliament has in the past been

instrumental in shaping this act with many powerful amendments during her

tenure.

She is also one of the few leaders who has has used this act in the best

possible way engaging the best of lawyers so that the offenders can be

booked.

But it seems that the present law is just not enough and perhaps this could

be one of the BIGGEST reason that the conviction rate in wildlife crimes in

India is pathetic.

 

In a recent interview to NDTV, Ms. Belinda Wright, Executive Director of

WPSI and someone who has been after the Tiger poachers for many decades

expressed her worst fear.

She said that Mr. Sansar Chand, the most dreaded criminal of India who has

been responsible for the largest number of Tiger/ Leopard poaching and other

wildlife crimes, presently imprisoned in an Indian jail may soon go free !!

This may happen due to some technical loopholes in the system.

 

But this can stop.

 

And such can only happen when the recommendations made by the expert

committee that includes Ms. Belinda Wright, Mr. Valmik Thapar, Mr. Mahendra

Vyas, Mr. Praveen Kumar are heard and India adopts their recommendations

 

Well it is these loopholes that we need to fill up.

 

If we do not act now, all the efforts of the Police, the Wildlife

Department, the barefooted forest guard, the dare devil investigators and

all who have been fighting wildlife crime can go into TRASH.

 

Let us help them help the WLPA, let us help India !
