*Hyderabad:* A newborn baby snatched by a stray dog died at the

government-owned King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam on Saturday morning.

The boy was born around 5 am and kept in a cradle next to his sleeping

mother, V Anuradha, from where the dog picked him up. An attendant who

noticed the dog carry the baby away raised an alarm, but the dog vanished.

By the time relatives and hospital staff conducted a thorough search at the

hospital, it was too late. They finally found the baby lying dead after

bleeding excessively from his mouth.

Relatives staged protests, accusing hospital authorities and staff of being

negligent. The baby’s mother has lodged a complaint with Vizag police.

Hospital authorities and the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation authorities

are locked in a blame game as to whose responsibility it was to keep stray

dogs away from the hospital premises.

State Health Minister D Nagender has set up a high-powered committee to

probe the issue and identify those responsible. He said the guilty will be

“punished sternly”.
