The State Forestry Administration has despatched a team to look into the

deaths of 11 rare Siberian tigers which reportedly starved to death in

Shenyang Forest Wild Animal Zoo in Liaoning province, according to China

News Service. A report by China National Radio said the zoo had been in

financial difficulty for months and many staffers had not been paid. Two

other tigers were shot dead last November after they attacked a zookeeper.

China News Service said the number of wild animals in the zoo had dropped

from 1,024 when it opened in 2000 to 518 in February.
