[image: Gay Bradshaw and Peanut]This issue celebrates the first anniversary of our 501©(3) non-profit status. Kerulos is a research and education center that integrates science and sanctuary in service to animals. We are founded to prevent violence against animals and to support animals’ ability to live with dignity and freedom. Our programs are trans-species: we design our questions and activities to reflect animal needs and cultures. Animals talk, we listen. Last year, our efforts focused on creating a solid foundation for Kerulos programs and faculty. Now, we are putting these preparations into action by implementing new projects, services, and courses, and with the establishment of the Kerulos Animal Recovery and Education Sanctuary<http://kerulos.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=accb583e7e74dee49ae8e\ 1921 & id=6bb4c559c5 & e=27a4d409a7>(KARES). Our sanctuary will utilize the best of human knowledge to restore animal hearts and minds. By healing animals, we heal humanity and make all places sanctuary. The sanctuary motto, *Je t'attendrai* (I will wait for you), conveys our commitment to animal kin: You will never be forgotten. We are here for you. Welcome to Kerulos. Join us in helping make a world where we live in peace with animal kin. Our work successfully convinced participating veterinarians and mahouts in India that there is another way to relate with elephants and other animals: one that is gentle and caring, not dominating and violent. Our new program, *Resilience and Engagement for Animal Care and Healing* (REACH), is designed to help animals by helping sanctuaries, shelters, and others in the animal care community cope with stress, including burnout and compassion fatigue. REACH is based on the idea that if animals are to be healed, we must also " heal the healer. " Our goal is to build resilient, trauma-informed workplace cultures where all animals, human and non-human, can thrive. REACH services are provided by Kerulos faculty members, licensed and certified psychotherapists with extensive experience in organizational development, coaching, and employee assistance programs.
