Animals Asia Foundation

Hong Kong

 

Animals Asia Foundation is an animal welfare charity dedicated to ending cruelty

and restoring respect for all animals across the region. We are a grass-roots

Asia-based non-governmental organisation headquartered in Hong Kong, with

offices in the UK, USA, Australia, Italy and Germany and Moon Bear Rescue

Centres in China and Vietnam. We have 230 staff worldwide.

 

We have a vacancy for a Managing Director at our head office in Hong Kong:-

 

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

 To give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the

organisation’s philosophy, mission, strategy and its annual goals and

objectives.

 Oversee work planning among division directors to ensure coordination of

activities and effective communication among AAF's various departments and

programmes.

 Provide management direction and supervision to approximately 7-9 direct

reports.

 Oversee worldwide budget preparation and tracking in cooperation with

Finance Director.

 Develop and maintain sound financial practices that comply with relevant

laws and regulations.

 Establish rigorous accountability standards to ensure fundraising and

expenditures are kept in balance and comply with budgetary objectives.

 Oversee fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying

resource requirements and evaluating the effectiveness of Animals Asia

fundraising activities.

 Oversee head office administration as well as day-to-day operations.

 Recruit, manage, inspire, motivate and empower a strong staff team.

 Prepare for the anticipated growth of the organisation: oversee the

development and implementation of appropriate human resource policies and

procedures, including training, career development, hiring and firing,

succession planning and performance management for all staff.

 Oversee an appropriate organisational structure and ensure that the

programmatic objectives are supported internally through facilities, technology,

finances, communication and functional needs.

 Promote an organisational culture that fosters passion for the mission,

cooperation, open and frequent communication, teamwork and a common

organisational vision.

 Provide support to the CEO in working with and developing the Animals Asia

Executive Committee.

 Manage, develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of key animal

welfare programmes.

 Oversee implementation of the Animals Asia’s strategic plan.

 

Reporting Relationship:

• The Managing Director reports directly to the CEO of Animals Asia.

 

Requirements:

• Education equivalent to a completion of a degree and extensive relevant

experience;

• At least five (5) years’ experience working with an international

non-profit organisation at a senior management level (preference will be given

to those candidates with animal welfare experience);

• Minimum five (5) years’ working and living in Asia;

• Extensive knowledge of Asian cultural and political climate, particularly in

China and Vietnam;

• Demonstrated ability to plan and implement successful fundraising strategies

and programs;

• Highly developed managerial and organisational skills with the ability to

provide advice, negotiate and liaise to achieve desired outcomes both within

Animals Asia and with external stakeholders;

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, with

the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders from varied

cultural backgrounds;

• Ability to problem solve, work under pressure, make decisions independently

and demonstrate initiative;

• Ability to think critically and strategically on highly complex issues,

problems and challenges;

• Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team as well as independently;

• Experience working with and developing an effective Board of Directors;

• Excellent written and spoken English (fluency in Mandarin and Cantonese a

plus);

• Must have a passion for animals and their welfare;

• Proficiency with computers and skill in the use of a range of software

applications.
