Guest guest Posted April 19, 2010 Report Share Posted April 19, 2010 PLANTS & ANIMALS WELFARE SOCIETY CREATES THE 4TH EDITION OF LEARN TO CARE SEMINAR IN STYLE Those who believe in the power and exuberance of youth, the Plants & Animals Welfare Society (PAWS) of Dombivli serves as a constant source of inspiration. A NGO primarily run by a young brigade most of them in their mid 20's organized an awareness workshop last Sunday bringing some of the most reputed NGOs under one roof. Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD), Reptile Rescue & Study Centre and Hariyali Trust are some of the big names that came together to enlighten over 58 participants & 19 guests across the city. The group felicitations involved representatives from Fire Brigade Dombivli, Police Dog Squad Thane and Kalyan Forest Range. Amongst individual categories, Dr. Charier was felicitated treating PAWS cases free of cost most of time, Sourabh Edwankar for his overall contribution in animal rescue work & Ruturaj Joshi for his outstanding work in wildlife rescues. Starting 11am, the banquet hall of Hotel Twins, venue of the workshop saw Mr. Kedar Bhide , a herpetologist from Reptile Rescue & Study Center giving some valuable insights on snake rescue and pros-n-cons of the same. Why people hold pre-conceived notions on the subject of snake rescue, how to bag a snake and what are the most suitable timings to release a snake as per its biological characteristics? Many such questions answered by snake-man Kedar who dedicated more than half of his life in the rescue of snakes ignited a fresh spirit in the minds of people. Post that Mr. Punam Singhvi from Hariyali Trust gave a very important presentation on waste management. He neatly explained how plastic, mango seeds and other waste can be restored and be neatly used for bio-diversity. At 2am sharp, a 45 minute break followed in the pursuit where participants relished on a vegan snack. A sum total 42 feedback forms were collected which highlighted the following feedback: * Overall Programme as an educational experience - 54% Excellent, 35% Very Good, 9% Good * Up to extent which will help u to do better job - Large Extent 78%, Some Extent 20% * 52% participants believed workshop helped clarify their ideas. 57% believed they received new ideas & approaches, * About 83% participants felt course duration was right, 9% felt it was too little. * 47% people felt " excellent " for administrative arrangements while 30% felt " Very Good " & 11% felt " Good. " * 83% people felt all important subjects were covered. Participants suggested that such programs should be organized across different societies at timely intervals. At 4.30pm, the 2nd session started with the most favourite topic amongst every participant - First Aid and medication of stray dogs hosted by Abodh Aras of WSD. The Q & A session between participants and Abodh exceeded the scheduled time. He shared some telephone numbers of homeopaths who can be consulted free of cost for homeopathy remedies least known for the treatment of animals in veterinary science. On a closing note, he shared some of the best experiences of his life. The vegan stall organized by 'The Green Stove " attracted many new customers. Participants enjoyed the vegan cakes, cupcakes, cookies. The stall kept some vegan animal treats as well. PAWS merchandise stall also attracted many people. Thanks to Celine Suresh who donated fancy jewelry on spot which was put-up for sale. Nilesh Bhanage, founder of PAWS Dombivli addressed the closing ceremony of the workshop and honoured the participants with a certificate of participation and first aid kit as a give-away. With the evening all set, participants filled up their forms signing petitions on begging elephants and ban horse carts in Kalyan city. They rated the overall preparations of the seminar expressing it as one of the greatest days to remember in their lives.
