PLANTS & ANIMALS WELFARE SOCIETY CREATES THE 4TH EDITION OF LEARN TO

CARE SEMINAR IN STYLE

Those who believe in the power and exuberance of youth, the Plants &

Animals Welfare Society (PAWS) of Dombivli serves as a constant source

of inspiration. A NGO primarily run by a young brigade most of them in

their mid 20's organized an awareness workshop last Sunday bringing some

of the most reputed NGOs under one roof. Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD),

Reptile Rescue & Study Centre and Hariyali Trust are some of the big

names that came together to enlighten over 58 participants & 19 guests

across the city.

The group felicitations involved representatives from Fire Brigade

Dombivli, Police Dog Squad Thane and Kalyan Forest Range. Amongst

individual categories, Dr. Charier was felicitated treating PAWS cases

free of cost most of time, Sourabh Edwankar for his overall contribution

in animal rescue work & Ruturaj Joshi for his outstanding work in

wildlife rescues.

Starting 11am, the banquet hall of Hotel Twins, venue of the workshop

saw Mr. Kedar Bhide , a herpetologist from Reptile Rescue & Study Center

giving some valuable insights on snake rescue and pros-n-cons of the

same. Why people hold pre-conceived notions on the subject of snake

rescue, how to bag a snake and what are the most suitable timings to

release a snake as per its biological characteristics? Many such

questions answered by snake-man Kedar who dedicated more than half of

his life in the rescue of snakes ignited a fresh spirit in the minds of

people.

Post that Mr. Punam Singhvi from Hariyali Trust gave a very important

presentation on waste management. He neatly explained how plastic, mango

seeds and other waste can be restored and be neatly used for

bio-diversity. At 2am sharp, a 45 minute break followed in the pursuit

where participants relished on a vegan snack.

was too little.

Participants suggested that such programs should be organized across

different societies at timely intervals.

At 4.30pm, the 2nd session started with the most favourite topic amongst

every participant - First Aid and medication of stray dogs hosted by

Abodh Aras of WSD. The Q & A session between participants and Abodh

exceeded the scheduled time. He shared some telephone numbers of

homeopaths who can be consulted free of cost for homeopathy remedies

least known for the treatment of animals in veterinary science. On a

closing note, he shared some of the best experiences of his life.

The vegan stall organized by 'The Green Stove " attracted many new

customers. Participants enjoyed the vegan cakes, cupcakes, cookies. The

stall kept some vegan animal treats as well. PAWS merchandise stall also

attracted many people. Thanks to Celine Suresh who donated fancy jewelry

on spot which was put-up for sale.

Nilesh Bhanage, founder of PAWS Dombivli addressed the closing ceremony

of the workshop and honoured the participants with a certificate of

participation and first aid kit as a give-away. With the evening all

set, participants filled up their forms signing petitions on begging

elephants and ban horse carts in Kalyan city. They rated the overall

preparations of the seminar expressing it as one of the greatest days to

remember in their lives. Nilesh showcased the heroics of his fellow

volunteer Avinash Bhagat who rescued a dog after jumping in a well on
