The fact is that Janice Smith was a hoarder and has left behind 120

unsterilized animals( 2 bulls, 2 cows, 2 calves,2 goats, 35 dogs, 20

puppies, 45 cats and 2 dead kittens and one blind pony) and a delapitated

bungalow in Panchgani. The famous, starved blind pony Ganesh has been

transported to the Blue Cross in Pune

for treatment and intensive medical care and feed. The locals ask about him

regularly and it would do us good to be able to get

him home again.

The Municipality says that it is prepared to use the bungalow and attached

2.2 acres right in town as a shelter and ABC centre

The locals will be prepared to set up an NGO Trust if some else qualified

will run it

as they have no knowledge of the Animal Welfare ' business'. 17 kilometres

away is Mahableshwar whisch also has nothing.

There are also about 500 tourist horses which are not registered under the

Performing Animal Rules, have no equine vet nor farrier

As there are several schools it would be an ideal opportunity to impart the

AW dream education.

Although Manoj Oswal, the Spca Thane and myself have gone to Panchgani we

all have our own area to deal with

and as it is not possible to dream of a world where no shelters are needed

this is an ideal opportunity

for young or retired responsible Vets or Welfarists or even wildlife people

to get a paid job.

The wild life situation is chaotic with sambar and boar meat sold openly in

the market

Cats are regularly stolen and eaten and the Magistrate cannot jail the

miscreants as their

children will be without parents and they are tribals.

I need CVs asap and I promise who ever you are you will get the support and

help of Mumbai and Pune NGOs

but we can't run it on a visiting basis.
