Guest guest
For the stray dogs & cats + pets of the poor in Sri Lanka... Please support the vital and selfless work of The Dogstar Foundation(UK) www.dogstarfoundation.com Dogstar Foundation is a very small UK registered charity with a handful of core team members - who are providing free veterinary care, neutering, rabies vaccinations, full course vaccinations, food, etc to street dogs, temple dogs, community dogs and pets belonging to poor people in Sri Lanka. http://www.youtube.com/user/dogstarfoundation They have a sensitive understanding of what the native people want and so operate on a CNVR (catch/neuter/vaccinate+treat/release) basis. DSF rehome pups in the local community and sponsor these in family homes or at temples where they are cared for by monks. They are working in conjunction with the Sri Lankan Veterinary Faculty to develop new surgical techniques and medicant protocols to deliver humane population control of dogs & cats. Modern small-animal licensed pain relief and dissolvable sutures have already been introduced. A steady flow of vet surgeons from the UK have been volunteering with Dogstar alongside Sri Lankan vets and students at the SL Vet School. 2 autoclave sterilisers and other surgical equipment has been donated by Dogstar to the faculty and their local vet. A microscope, other implements and a vet reference library are about to follow. Dogstar Foundation also help local residents and orphanages with DIY projects as well as run education programmes for local children on health, safety and animal welfare. ALL THIS IS BEING DONE ON A SHOE-STRING BUDGET *FUNDS & SUPPLIES ARE ALWAYS DESPERATELY NEEDED* DSF work in their own area but also team up with some of the other animal welfare groups in Sri Lanka (there are approx 10) to support each other, swap ideas etc such as: Canine Life Support, Embark, Tsunami Animal People Alliance, Blue Paw Trust etc. All of these groups have strict cultural sympathies and work alongside local people. Many people want community dogs to remain as community dogs as long as they are neutered, vaccinated and kept healthy - many of the dogs themselves seem happier living free as community also. http://www.youtube.com/user/dogstarfoundation FIND THEM ON FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/DogstarFoundation?ref=ts THANKYOU
