To support the objective, Plants and Animal Welfare Society (Paws) and National Service Scheme (NSS), a unit of NKTT College, Thane, in media partnership with DNA has organised an event in Thane. With urbanisation, declining quality of environment and sparse green cover, the number of house sparrows, one of the most commonly-found bird species earlier, has declined over a period of time. On the day, events and awareness campaigns highlight issues like house sparrow nesting sites, food, effects of pesticides, microwave pollution that acts as a silent killer and how this species can be helped to survive adverse conditions. “House sparrows engage in building nests in crevices, but glass and concrete structures have little space,” said Nilesh Bhanage, founder-trustee of Paws. -- Nilesh Bhanage +91 9920777536 www.pawsasia.org www.freewebs.com/pawsproducts www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HigxbMqfh0
