Guest guest
http://www.indiablooms.com/SportsDetailsPage/sportsDetails050410e.php ICC CWC mascot unveiledIndia Blooms News Service Mumbai, April 5 (IBNS) The mascot of the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2011 was unveiled at a function in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on April 2, announced a top official on Monday. Cricket-followers based in the the host nations – India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – will be able to participate in a contest to name the mascot. The details pertaining to the consumer contest (address on which to send entries and deadline) will be intimated in due course, said R.S. Shetty, Tournament Director, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Rationale The idea of the mascot is to crystallise the feelings and action of the sport and the fans in a graphic form that reflects the visceral tone and emotion that Cricket creates in its followers, especially in an event like the CWC. It also emphasises the enthusiasm of youth both in general and for Cricket itself, especially on the sub-continent with its massive and dedicated following. He's stylised to give an instantly recognisable graphic strength so that with exposure his bold lines and strong colouring will instantly create a friendly face for the CWC. Our mascot is not just an animated character; it must operate without the back-story you'd find in a film or show, it needs to get a personality across without speech or word balloons, and the majority of the time it needs to work in a context such as the many printed applications where the only tools are body language/pose and personality. While the official logo identifies the event, the mascot connects directly to the emotion and heart of the tournament. It distils the feel. And this is why both children and adults respond. They want something that encapsulates their enthusiasm. With correct exposure, and successful development the mascot becomes an additional logo and mark of recognition for the tournament. It is the distillation of the fun of the sport or event that fans can take away with them. It must always be sincere and pure to the event. I hope we have done this with our little elephant! Character His personality is encapsulated in his form - he's young and enthusiastic, and bursting at the seams with his love for Cricket and his/its heroes! When he's fully grown he hopes to be a giant (in both senses) like the masters of the sport he loves so much. Being young he knows that he can't get it all right the first time or even the tenth, but the Cricketers he looks up to have taught him to use his elephant strength and step-by-step determination to reach his goals, and eventually he will be the best. But as an elephant he always remembers that the love of the sport is the most important thing! Elephants are wise, after all. He's an elephant through and through, and always uses his head. If he can't run as fast just yet, he'll use his strength to hit the ball that much further. If he can't burn down the pitch in the run-up, he'll perfect his action to launch that ball straight through the bails like a missile. He may not be as light/nimble on his feet as some and sometimes it gets him down for a moment, but there's always a solution if he puts his mind to it... Sometimes it's hard to be patient, but when he's behind those same bails as keeper he tries to stay focused and hone his concentration for the crucial moment. And when things don't go so well he tries to remember to loosen up and have fun, because that's the most important thing, and while he wants to rise to the big time like his idols, he loves nothing more than being a young fella and running out for a bit of street Cricket! There aren't many things he doesn't like, but while he loves most spices, he sure can't stand chilli which irritates his sensitive skin and boy does it burn if it gets up his trunk. And bees. He can't stand bees (everybody thinks it's mice but that's not true!). The only buzz he likes is the one before the game! He doesn't really like the blazing hot sun and it's fun to go for a bit of a splash or at least find a nice shady spot to cool off in the hot Summer. The only heat for him is the heat of the pitch! He loves street Cricket, playing or just hanging out with his friends, radio (to listen to the game), street cricket, television (to watch the game or play it on a console), the net (to research the stats!), going for a dip when it's hot, and uh, street Cricket. And oh boy, when he gets to go to the game... Some times he gets a bit over-enthusiastic and tries to remember not to blow his own trumpet (!). He's getting better at that though and like his heroes he knows it's all about the training and these things come with time. And it all adds up to the ultimate, the big time like the Cricket World Cup, where one day he'll show the whole world what he can do, and how much he loves his sport! After all Cricket World Cup is ‘The Cup that Counts!’ Character Short Summary Young, enthusiastic and determined Thinks cricket is the most fun game in the world Loves playing street cricket – would play 24/7 if he could Worships Cricket Heroes, their technique, skill and character Understands there is a lot to learn, work’s hard at it, step by step Learning to master the art of concentration Dreams of Playing in the World Cup……one day Age: 10 (human years) -- http://www.stopelephantpolo.com http://www.freewebs.com/azamsiddiqui
