Dissection debate: Turning the knife in.

 

After schools, animals may soon be off dissection trays across

universities and colleges, as animal welfare activists, led by

PETA, take forward their campaign. The anti-vivisection

campaign has seen some 15 universities deciding to completely

do away with or “minimise” animal dissections. Five of them

have done so in the past six months. The move, however, has

left the scientific community worried about the future of

zoological research study and experimentation without

dissetions, just as it has prompted the University Grants

Commission (UGC) to set up a committee to examine the merits

and demerits of animal dissections in colleges and varsities.
