Forest

*11 March, 2010:*

One trader was arrested with 132 wild pigeons in an

intelligence operation carried out by the MPF enforcement team supported by

WWF. The consignment consists of three different species, Thick Billed Green

Pigeon *(Teron curviscostra)*, Green Imperial Pigeon *(Ducula aenea**)* &

Pompadour Green Pigeon *(Teron pompadora)*

*This seizure indicates the presence of avian trade in the area.

Enforcement Team consisting of Forestry Administration and WWF staff, found

a suspicious person carrying basket on motorbike near Phnom Jai in

Mundulkiri Protected Forest. When team stopped him and checked the basket,

they found 132 wild pigeons. The offender was fined with 150 USD under the

Forestry Law. All 132 birds were release back into the wild.

During the questioning offender told the team that he bought these birds

from tribal bird trapper in 50 USD & he would sell the birds 75 USD in his

village in Kohnheak district.
