Guest guest
Hi Chandra That's a bit of a variation from the emails I have had from Quorn. I was originally told (4 years ago) that the Mushroom industry, mainly the Gardenburger company, had objected to the description of the main ingredient as follows - Mycoprotein is a nutritious member of the fungi family, as are mushrooms and truffles 'Apparently' the mycoprotein is not in any way related to mushrooms hence the objection by the mushroom industry to the description. It was decided that there was not enough demand in Canada to pursue the fight with the government so it was abandoned. I think they gave up too easy. What we need in Canada is a large vegetarian friendly corporation to take on the government and get this product approved. We have way too many foods fortified with things we don't need. I don't need my faux meat products to have the same food value as meat - yuck. We've had a huge meat recall here due to an outbreak of listeriosis. I think the public is ready for more options. We need lots of products, not just the 11 available in the US. What is needed in the US is for people to keep demanding more variety in the Quorn selection. I don't mind a 2 hour drive across the border to buy Quorn but most stores there don't even stock all 11. OK, off my soapbox and up to the kitchen to get some veggies ready for roasting for lunch. Have a great day From Chandra We have investigated selling Quorn products in Canada in reply to enquiries from other consumers. The Canadian authorities specify minimum nutritional values for key nutrients for any 'simulated poultry substitutes' to be sold in Canada. As they currently stand, most of our products would not meet all of these criteria, and to achieve this, in some cases, it would be necessary to fortify Quorn products with some of these nutrients. Fortification does not at present meet with our brand values. We are therefore unable to advise when or if we will be able to sell Quorn products in Canada.
