Guest guest
I am looking for tahini that does not contain traces of peanuts or tree nuts b/c I am VERY allergic to nuts. I am working under the assumption that most good veggies have a jar of tahini around, so please check your tahini for the nut disclaimer, and let me know the nut-free brands. (All I can find in Omaha is Arrowhead Mills, and it contains traces of nuts.) Thanks so much! Padmasanadave.

Guest guest
You don't have much to do in making tahini. Go get a bag of raw sunflower seeds. I toss them around in a hot dry iron skillet, gives them a nice roasted flavor. Put them in the food processor after they are cooled down. Add a little oil in a stream as you process and a little lemon juice. If you have a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods you can easily find the raw sunflower seeds. Hope this helps ypu. Guest guest
Whole Foods we have. Also Wild Oats - I think (at least one of them in town closed up). Anyway, thanks. I can certainly handle this. Padmasanadave. , thelilacflower wrote: > > You don't have much to do in making tahini. Go get a bag of raw sunflower seeds. Guest guest
You're welcome. You don't have to clean the food processor. Empty the tahini out and make your hummus next. I like to do this, saves time in having to dig the food processor out again Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile " padmasanadave " <padmasanadave Sat, 20 Sep 2008 02:12:59 Re: Nut-free Tahini Whole Foods we have. Guest guest
I thought tahini is made from ground sesame seed, not sunflower seed. Am I mistaken? There is also on the market a sunflower " butter " , although I guess there is the possibility of it being made in a plant that processes other nuts, thus triggering a reaction in those who are allergic. Wouldn't sunflower seeds be similar? --Laura B., in Illinois Nut-free Tahini Posted by: " thelilacflower " thelilacflower thelilacflower Fri Sep 19, 2008 6:48 pm ((PDT)) You don't have much to do in making tahini. Guest guest
I find using lightly pan toasted sunflower seeds tastes so much better. I take such a huge amount of sesame seeds and if you toast them the flavor is so strong. Donna Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile " L.B.
