Guest guest
so today is the first time I bought and tasted the " no chicken " better than bouillon. ***LOVE*** I tried to make a gravy using only the broth and cornstarch, I figured it wouldn't work but I had to try. I am wondering if anyone has had success using this to make a bonafide " thick " gravy without makinf a flour roux beforehand? I am hoping to find one that is gluten and fat free. Second question...so I couldnt help but stick my finger into the jar and give it a go on its own...I was amazed how much it tasted like the " real " stuff except the smell of chicken broth makes me want to vomit! Do I dare question *science*...LOL...so, I am wondering if anyone out there can tell me if this is what the vegemite/marmite tastes like? From the descriptions that I have heard in the past, it sounds similar...if so...I'm heading out to try a vegemite/marmite sandwich that I've been terrified of all these years!!! Guest guest
Now you make me have to try it. I always get the vegetable flavor, now I will have to try this. I order it online as I cannot get it in any store around here. hugs, Chanda PS. I LOVE better than bouillon, but I tried the mushroom flavor and yuk. This is why I stick with my veggie flavor. OK, I will try the no chicken Thanks! - Rayne Tuesday, September 23, 2008 9:02 PM 2 questions... so today is the first time I bought and tasted the " no chicken " better than bouillon. ***LOVE*** I tried to make a gravy using only the broth and cornstarch, I figured it wouldn't work but I had to try. Guest guest
I love marmite but it has been so long since I tasted chicken that I cannot tell you if there is any similarity. It seems doubtful. Marmite has a salty very intense nutritional yeast flavour to me. One of my cats loves both and the other can't stand either, so the " you either love it or hate it " goes for felines as well as humans. One of my favourite sandwiches was marmite, cheese, alfalfa sprouts and/or cucumber. Since I became vegan I leave out the cheese but it is a great combination. Guest guest
Being born in England, I grew up on marmite and love it. It is very salty and tastes nothing like chicken. My mom would make buttered toast and shmear marmite on the toast (my stomach is growling just thinking about it). I have never tried it with cheese and sprouts, but it sounds delicious. , " christie_0131 " <christie0131 wrote: > > I love marmite but it has been so long since I tasted chicken that I > cannot tell you if there is any similarity. Guest guest
Sometimes I make roux mixing wheat flour and oat flour, but I do not see why one could not make it out of your favorite gluten free flour, like amaranth, quinoa, millet, rice, I forget what else is gluten free....What I do sometimes is put the flour in a pan and brown it in the oven (low like 275 or 300) until it gets golden, and this makes a decent roux. , " Rayne " <stargazerlily72 wrote: > > so today is the first time I bought and tasted the " no chicken " better > than bouillon. ***LOVE*** I tried to make a gravy using only the broth > and cornstarch, I figured it wouldn't work but I had to try.
