Guest guest
Surprisingly, this does apply to vegetarianism! I've seen that commercial (promoting) high fructose corn syrup...It makes me sick, because the woman in it acts so innocent like, " It must be 'natural' because it's made from (how can you say it's not good?) CORN... " !!! Like THAT kind of corn is so " natural " when it is a) gentetically modified b) not ordinary sweet corn (human food). c) Is a crop that is HEAVILY dosed with pesticides, otherwise it would not even GROW like it does in those enormous, environmentally-polluting fields c) is a crop PRIMARILY raised to feed ANIMALS that will become most of the " meats " sold in supermarkets and other stores for " food " ... --How can THAT be a " good, wholesome, 'NATURAL' " thing??! In the midwest where I live, especially my part of central Illinois, it is considered almost un-American to think that all this " corn " which is NOT grown for human food, only for animal feed and the " products " like HFC...I try to ONLY purchase ORGANIC foods that contain any kind of " corn " and stay as far from HFC as I can. People who are vegetarians cut into this polluting and corrupted " agricultural industry " of almighty corn because when the demand for domesticated animal flesh goes down, there will be less need to produce this energy-draining crop--and we will ALL benifit from that. Sorry about my personal soapbox! Thank you for letting me rant! --Laura B., from Illinois Have you seen the ad on TV promoting high fructose but out by themselves? Guest guest
I am glad that you all said this, as I have been thinking that. I now change the channel when those commercials come on. The one with the moms cracks me up! How ridiculous it all sounds! And, have you seen the one with the couple and the man doesn't know what to say Typical! LOL J/K He takes her word for it, as my husband does about anything regarding nutrition that I have to say. He knows I have done some research on it all, but in this case, the man in the commercial needs to put the woman in her place (and throw that popsicle that they are going to share in the garbage!) Cassie P.S. That high fructose corn syrup is as natural as Pam Anderson's breasts! --- On Wed, 10/1/08, L.B. <elbee577 wrote: L.B. <elbee577 Re: TV commercial (corn syrup) Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 7:47 AM Surprisingly, this does apply to vegetarianism! Guest guest
Oh no, you can't say anything bad about our Pam Anderson. She works with PETA and she supports vegetarianism. She gets the word out there whether her chest helps her or not. Guest guest
Thank you for this Laura. When I first tried to become vegetarian 4 or 5 years ago, I suddenly developed bad allergies to corn and all its derivatives. I had to do a lot of research to figure out how to avoid it, and it is just amazing how the food industry dumps corn in one form or another into almost all processed food, and corn allergies are on the rise due to it. Vegetarian foods use a lot of corn and I was already predisposed to food allergies, so I evidently overloaded myself causing the allergy to pop up. I can tolerate small amounts of certain forms of corn today, but still not corn syrup. I can tolerate very little processed foods, and even most medications and other nonfood items contain it, so you can imagine how hard it is for me day-by-day. To me natural is fresh fruits and vegetables, not something that has been overly processed. Michelle in Virginia
Guest guest
The first time I saw the commercial, I thought it was a joke! We had just gotten cable back on after more than 2 years of not having it! Then I noticed who was " sponsering " the commercial at the bottom of the screen. What gets me, though, is she is promoting it with a very unhealthy food. Of course, they don't want the general population to know that HFCS is in most convenience foods these days. So, the popultaion is unknowingly eating HFCS, unless they read labels, which I do more and more. I was shocked when I found it in BREAD! (It took me a while to search through all the labels and find bread that did not have it.) The commercial should say something like, " Well, you are eating HFCS in alsmost everything, anyway, so why not take a bite of my popcicle? " Anyone notice a similarity between Eve tempting with the apple???? Hmm... , " L.B.
