Guest guest
Ya know, it doesn't surprise me one bit! Our government seems to PROMOTE the use of dangerous pesticides in the production of the readily-available " foods " we have in most supermarkets...and consumers buy it! There is also a lot of propaganda " out there " that is to the tune of " Organic is no healthier or better nutritionally than conventional CANNED or frozen foods..... " Blah, blah, BLAH!! I don't believe that one bit, but the average food consumer is surely taken in by it! Here in downstate Illinois, the stores only occasionally have limited selections of organic produce, but, like you said, it often goes bad quicker or looks wilted or " iffy " on display--organic produce often looks like it has been badly handled or bruised, never as " pristine and spiffy " on display as the non-organic counterparts. When I have inquired in stores as to why they don't expand their organic offerings, especially produce and the more perishable food items, I 've usually been told, " We don't sell it as well and so it's not profitable to stock it... " If they took better care of the produce and foods, the market is out there and I think it would sell. We have a small but (so far) thriving health food store in our little town that does carry produce and many organic, vegetarian and " speical dietary " foods. They have a loyal customer base, including myself. I wish there were more healthy food options out there in the " regular " marketplace! --Laura B., in Illinois Chanda wrote: stop salivating! you are getting the room all messy! LOL, ya know, this is sad, but one time I was having a talk with the manager of produce of my local supermarket. He told me that they let the organic stuff sit at the warehouse longer than the non organic so the organic goes bad quicker. Something to do with lobbyists I am sure. What a sad shame.
