Guest guest
My husband just got a call from a friend who fancies herself to be a coniseur of good food. (She is also a bit of a snob.) She mentioned that she had gone to some swank dinner and foud eggplant parmesan was one of the entree choises. She never would have tried it, except that she remembered when I made it and served it to her several years ago. She tried it and liked it very much, but said that it wasn't as good as what I made. I credit that to an exagerated memory, but either way, I am happy to move one very snobbish and stuborn person a step closer to proper diet. Guest guest
Katiie, Eggplant Parmesan is one of my very most favorite dishes and I often order it in a restaurant. I have found that the quality of the dish varies widely from one place to another. I don't consider myself a food snob, BTW, but your acquaintance may have found YOUR recipe for it more to her liking than the one used at the restaurant. The BEST Eggplant Parmesan I've EVER had was from, of all places, the " hot deli " at a Whole Foods in St. Louis, MO. Close second best (and my favorite, most of the time) was from a (chain) Italian restaurant, " Maggiano's Little Italy " , also in the greater St. Louis area. They give you enough in one entree to share around the table with others or to take some home in a reheatable take-out container. I've had eggplant in some restaurants that was just awful-- tough, rubbery, and terribly bitter! I'm glad your " food snob " friend liked YOURS better than what she had in the restaurant! Good for you! My guess is she will be mentally searching for that special " something " yours had that the restaurant's entree didn't have! Peace! --Laura B., from Illinois
