Guest guest
I am picking up a crockpot today, this is my first time owning and using one. I printed alot of the crockpot recipes in the files. I am very eager to learn how to make them. My question is that I want to make enough where I can freeze it for another time, to cut down on haveing to cook all the time with my busy schedule. How do you freeze the food such as what containers, also how do you prevent freezer bite. Thanks julie
Guest guest
I use the plastic boxes, like Tupperware, and plastic bags. I do have a Seal A Meal which takes the air out of the plastic bags, but you can get most of the air out by hand. Guest guest
Also, make sure you get one with a removeable pot. Much easier to clean. Guest guest
Julie.... Ziplock freezer bags were fine....also plastic containers work fine. You want to get as much air as possible out of the containers or from the freezer bag before freezing the food. The nice thing about using Ziplock bags is that you can flatten them so they stack nicely in your freezer thus taking up less room and will thaw faster. When I use containers, I press plastic wrap down on top of the food when I am freezing in a container to get air out. But, no matter who well you wrap, freezer BURN, or an off taste, will eventually happen if you leave food in the freezer too long. You can probably find a chart on how long different foods can be frozen successfully on the internet or you can pick up a freezer cookbook and get the information. I use my old, early 1980's crockpot 3 days a week on the days I am gone from 7 AM to about 4 PM. I prepare and put the food into the crockpot the night before, put the whole crockpot liner in the fridge overnight and then the next morning, put the filled liner in the appliance base, turn it on and off I go..........I LOVE my old crockpot. Very fast and very handy. Nancy C. East Texas I am picking up a crockpot today, this is my first time owning and using one. I printed alot of the crockpot recipes in the files.
