Guest guest
I contacted the Pyrex company and their statement was that the dishes can indeed go safely from freezer to oven, but it is recommended that you let it set for three to five minutes while preheating the oven. Since I do not use a microwave I don't know how that would work, but I have been freezing in pyrex for several years with no mishaps. The pyrex corps. customer care number is :800-999-3436, they may be able to tell you how the microwave thing will work out.
Guest guest
The company you would have contacted is World Kitchens, Inc. They bought out the housewares division of Corning in 1996 and have been making Pyrex at one of the old Corning plant sites in Pittsburg since then. I am just glad that World Kitchen's, Inc. bought the housewares division of Corning and that Corning didn't just discontinue making Pyrex. Corning Glassworks invented it and introduced it to the public in 1915 and made it successfully for so many years. Where would out kitchen's be without PYREX!! It truly was a miracle in kitchens of the era....cooking in glass was unheard of until Corning perfected PYREX glass. I have at least one example of each of the original 12 pieces that were introduced at The Jordan Marsh Department Store in 1915.....AND use them. Took me 5 years to complete the collection of those 12 pieces. I have hundreds of pieces of the oldest PYREX and most look just like they are new....and many are 75 to 93 years old. I love'em. I have to admit that I don't use my Pyrex in the microwave either though.....only the newer pieces made after about 1980 should be used in the microwave as the glass formulas for oven glass only and duel oven/microwave glass is different. I mainly use our microwave for reheating or warming.....although I do like to cook rice in it. Nancy C.
