OT help - removing hockey tape residue fom 5 year old's face

Hi,

Tonight my 5 year old unwound some hockey tape from his mini-stick and

put it on his eyes and mouth. It left black residue behind. I put him

in the shower but the majority is still on his face.

It's harmless but funny looking. So, does anyone have any

recommendations on how to get it off. I obviously don't want to use

anything harsh and scrubbing didn't really work (and made his cheek

all red).

It it has to wear off so be it. Maybe it'll teach him not to put tape

on his eyes and mouth (it's an ongoing issue...he does it and pretends

that he is a blind superhero).

Thanks in advance,

Paula

Hi Paula,

A few days ago my teenager came home with glue stuck to his hair.

Someone thought it was funny to put a wad of glue, the size of my palm,

right on the crown of his head. I grabbed a bottle of mineral spirits,

q-tips and some paper towels and went to work on it. Within a few

minutes the glue was gone and my son was running off to the shower to

get the smell of the mineral spirits out of his hair. My son is very

sensitive and I was afraid the mineral spirits would irritate his skin

on his scalp, but he was fine and there was no redness. We didn't let

the mineral spirits sit on his head though.

I have to tell you, that story you told reminds me of my son! I had to

laugh a little when I pictured it. Enjoy it they grow so fast, haha!

Good luck with the glue residue, I would love to hear how you finally

resolve this.

:)

Paula -

I would try ispropoyl alcohol. Or maybe witch hazel.

Good Luck

What worked for me when this happened to my nephew was rubbing olive

oil on it, seemed to roll right off.

Good luck. Kids will be kids.

Would hydrogen peroxide work? Put it on a cotton pad and have your son lay

down with it on the spots. It might " bubble it off " . I've used this on

other sticky stuff.

But I admire his imagination. To bad we loose most of that as we get older.

Thank you to everyone for your excellent suggestions. I put him in

the shower for quite awhile that night. Not much came off but by the

next morning most of it had disappeared. I'm surprised it didn't

last longer as old hockey tape can be quite sticky.

Nonetheless, it's off and DS is banned from putting tape on his face

under threat of no more Star Wars!

That's a good story you can tell his girlfriend some day!! :)

We always used to use nail polish remover to get off band-aid sticky stuff,

works pretty well.

It is a story to pass down. I use nail polish remover but would hesitate to use

it or alcohol one the face because of the danger of it getting in the eyes.

I know that Canola oil (or any cooking oil) dissolves the glue from a

mouse glue trap so perhaps this is worth a try?
