Guest guest
Hi - I'm new to the group, too -- I've been an ovo-lacto vegetarian for about a year. I'm from Kansas City, which is a barbecue and steak city, so everybody asks me " But how do you get protein?? Lots better ways than meat... I just tell people " I eat what I want and you eat what you want -- and it's none of anybody else's business! " Check out some of the meatless products to help you on your way. I found it easier to do without chicken, turkey, and pork before beef (I was raised on ground beef and macaroni and cheese!), but Quorn is one of my absolute favorite products -- the naked chik'n cutlets are very good -- I put it in casseroles and on salads. The ground (fake ground beef) I think is better than soy, I think. (Quorn is not vegan, at least not the chik'n cutlets, they have egg whites in them). Audrey S. Guest guest
Greetings goodliwoman, WELCOME! I LOVE cheese, too. Although I rarely eat it. (Much easier here in Mississippi than it was when I lived in NYC and could easily get the BEST cheese from all over the world...) No rush. Respect your process! Enjoy! anGELA Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile " goodlilwoman " <goodlilwoman Sat, 25 Oct 2008 18:44:41 Just Joined! Hello! Hi! I am not fully veggie yet but I am making great strides toward it. Be patient. I was raised in the very beefy dairy state of Wisconsin. I have not eaten pork or beef in years. It has been the only way to placate my family and friends. But now that they are use to that, and I am more concerned about how I feel and live than their opinions, I am ready to begin a more serious approach to become 100% veggetarian. It will take another year at least to give up cheese. I love it yet. So, I will need to research and find some suitable replacements. I am looking for more low fat/fat free dishes because I do have a few pounds to lose. I have lost a lot already, but still need to keep going. Thank you for letting me in. I look forward to the day I share my first full veggie week with you all here, and then on to share success with more serious goals. I am not looking for any weight loss advice here...I already know what I have to do.
Guest guest
Hello and welcome! I am quite new myself (just joined yesterday). being from Wisconsin myself, I can relate. When I first learned about vegetarianism, it was easy enough with my immediate family but aunt, uncles, and such (hunters, galore... ugh) were not supportive at all. I transitioned slowly... dropping one meat at a time. As time goes on they've come to expect a little " weirdness " from me and let it go. My biggest struggle with veganism is cheese, so I understand why it will take an extra year to give that up. Is it just me or does cheese find its way in everything around here? (My aunt makes an apple pie with cheese in it!) Best of luck with your goals! Toni goodlilwoman wrote: > > Hi! > > I am not fully veggie yet but I am making great strides toward it. Be > patient. Guest guest
Hi Audry, Welcome to the group. I totally agree with on on the Quorn product. I've only tried the naked chicken so far but I intend to try it all. I made breaded naked cutlets last night and they tasted just like the chicken my mom makes. Good stuff. I know you'll get some great recipes from this group, I sure have. Pam Audrey Snyder <AudeeBird Saturday, October 25, 2008 8:12:50 PM Re: Just Joined! Hello! Guest guest
Ok, Pam, I want to know details on how you breaded the cutlets! That sounds great! (I'm always afraid to cook them for too long because I'm afraid they'll get tough) I had a craving for fried chicken early on -- I found a recipe on allrecipes.com (great site, with a few good vegetarian recipes) for breaded, fried tofu, and that fixed my craving! I haven't figured out anything else to do with tofu since, though -- something I hope to gain from this group. I have a bag of Quorn meatballs that I haven't tried yet, the cashier at Whole Foods told me they were good. I'll probably put bbq sauce on them (no fishy stuff in my favorite brand!). I'll let you all know what I think of them. Audrey S. I live with a guy who bugs me about " meat " everyday... but I am such a bullhead he knows its a waste of his time. Thanks for the warm 'understanding' welcome.... ________________________________ Toni <Earthwhispers Saturday, October 25, 2008 8:57:05 PM Re: Just Joined! Hello! Hello and welcome!
