Diane I see those now and then and they are called Mexican onions in the two

places I buy them.  I like to grill them on the BBQ.  I thought they were

oversized green onions.

Thanks so much for the link.

Hi Paul,

No, they are not the same. A spring onion (not just avail in spring)

is an onion with a partially formed bulb. It is what will become a

mature onion after it is picked and trimmed.

Here are some pics: http://www.foodsubs .com/Onionsgreen .html

Don't feel shy about questions like this. With international and

regional names for things, everyone here has had occasion to ask

similar questions :) I use this Cook's Thesaurus link all the time to

look up things ppl mention here. I learn so much from this group and

not just about food :)

I haven't tried them grilled; I bet they're great that way. I love

them for french onion soup and just plain sliced on sandwiches or veg

burgers. I'll have to try some on the grill soon :) Now I'm

wondering if the Mexican grocery close to me will have them. And it's

a pretty day for a walk :)

I love that Cook's Thesaurus site - the pics are great.

I find them as low as 50 cents a bunch.

Enjoy your walk.
