Guest guest
We have been celebrating Thanksgiving with my sister's families and my parent's for many years. We will be celebrating in Chattanooga this year, for the first time, as we usually are down in the Orlando area for it. Hopefully some of the fall colors will still be on the trees, but not sure if they will last that long with the coolers snap that has been in the SE for a week or more now and even cooler this week. We're even going to try and slip over to the Smoky Mountains for a couple of days while we are so close by. It is one of my very favorite places to visit, along with Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN right there. We can't wait to see all the Christmas decorations that they put up there for the Christmas holidays and go for a hike beside a mountain creek in the SM national Park. We all print of favorite recipes and make different dishes each year for our Thanksgiving Menu. About the only thing that stays the same are the desserts. Those are homemade Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, Chocolate Pecan Fudge, Fruit Cake and Store Bought Ms. Smith Mince Meat Pie(all vegetarian). I'll start looking thru the files and print off some recipes to to make that day and the whole weekend, as we spend several days together. We all contribute to making the Thanksgiving dinner and then divide up the other meals between my sisters and myself. Friday morning, most all of us, head out for Christmas shopping at 5a.m. It is a bonding time that we all enjoy and have fun doing. Guest guest
I head the cooking or should I say do the cooking ever year. Side dishes are always welcome but I have it covered. Everyone is welcome. We usually have anywhere from 10 to 20 people. I make plenty off food so there are always doggy bags too. Guest guest
Since our family is so divided, we spend Thanksgiving here at home just my husband and my kids and me. I make non-veg for the non-vegetarians and dressing, pumpkin chiffon pie, homemade green bean casserole, chipotle mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and cranberry sauce. We have appetizers and chips and dip. Apple cider and sparkling grape juice, plus the grown up drinks. Hubby and the boys watch football and I cook. We offer an open invitation to all of our friends incase someone wants to stop by but it's usually just us since everyone is usually with family. This year I'll be making a separate batch of dressing for me with veggie stock and if I can't find the Quorn Turk'y Roast, I'll use the Naked Chik'n Cutlets. After 'dinner', since my husband designs hotrods, we go to the Houston Autorama Car Show and walk off our meal. Not sure if we're doing that his year, I've lost track of the show dates. Guest guest
We usually celebrate at home, with just my mom, sister, and grandma (who is 87 and surfs the internet for at least 2 hours a day!). My sister moved to Denver in July, though, so this year I'm going to Denver to see her. We're both single, so we'll have a quiet day at home (with her pug, Belle!) I think she's going to make pasta with vodka sauce, she got a recipe from a friend at work and has been talking about it for a week! She emailed me the other day and said to bring my recipe for sugar cookies, so we'll make those. *Snyder family favorite holiday side dish: Cream cheese corn *(do you want these posted separately?) 1 bag of frozen corn 1 stick margarine 1 package cream cheese (the neufchatel cheese, " 1/3 less fat than cream cheese, " works great) Heat until creamy and bubbly, on the stove or in the microwave Audrey S. Guest guest
My Thanksgiving is pretty boring compared to others. I have no family close by so it is just me and my fur companion Zippy. The other part of my screen name is Po for my cat who is not here anymore. We did a vegetarian Thanksgiving last year and this year we are tying a vegan meal. Before my brothers passing we used to spend all holidays together. My father lives next to me part of the year and if I see him over the holidays we have a potluck type dinner. He and his wife are flexotarians. Other than that it is basically just another day for me.
