Guest guest
This is a question that I was asked and I am going to ask you also. If you are supposed to be a vegetarian or vegan why do you eat imitation meat? I very seldome eat it myself, I quit eating meat to become a vegetarian not to substitute it for something else. Guest guest
To me, one has nothing to do with the other and I think the person who asked you?the question was just trying to?rattle your cage....some people like to do that, it makes them feel superior.? I became a vegetarian solely for ethical reasons and no living creatures are harmed in the creation of meat analogs.? Some of them taste good, it makes for a quick meal, it helps diversify your diet and.... it doesn't stink when it's cooking.? This is a question that I was asked and I am going to ask you also. For me personally I make gluten roasts that taste nothing like meat -- I make the roast shape so I can slice the end product thinly for sandwiches. I never thought of it as imitation meat but I guess some people would. I am going veg cuz I don't like the way meat feels in my mouth, between my teeth and I don't like the way my breath smells after eating it. When I go by meat counters in the stores I can smell the rot in the cases so I just can't stomach putting items from those cases in my mouth. Not going veg for " moral " or " ethical " reasons. I just don't like second hand food. I consider meat to be a poor substitute for REAL food. Just my opinion mind you. Summer aka Lisa **************Get the Moviefone Toolbar. Guest guest
I really agree with this, too. Regardless of the reason one becomes vegetarian, the fact is that the " non-meat " substitute foods are NOT made from animals (except for the ones that may have dairy or egg ingredients)--so they are NOT m**t and therefore ARE suitable for vegetarian eating. --And they don't " stink " when they're cooking--a BIG plus, IMHO! --Laura B. Guest guest
- AMEN, I couldn't agree more, one has nothing to do with the other, I also became a vegetarian for ethical reasons, I get all kinds of ignorant questions thrown at me, I try to inform people in a non judgmental way, I may not agree with meat eaters but I don't knock them and I just would like the same consideration, Have a stress free vegetarian day. Guest guest
Most of the time I don't think of it as imitation meat but as a veggie version and mostly it's about texture for me. I liked my bean tacos but was very happy to find TVP because it was more like the tacos I remember from childhood. And I don't think the froz veggie burgers taste like hamburger but they are good as their own thing, as is a grilled porti. My 93 yo Grandmother loves Gardenburgers and will ask my G'pa if he wants a meat burger or a veggie burger & they are not vegetarians. For a burger I basically want something chewy with a nice flavor that's hot enough to melt the cheese and goes well with pickles, tomato & onion. Questions like the one you got are silly to me, sort of along the lines of Do vegetarians eat animal crackers? If it harm none, eat what ye will Peace, Diane , " Barb " <tigger_twins wrote: > > This is a question that I was asked and I am going to ask you also. > > If you are supposed to be a vegetarian or vegan why do you eat > imitation meat? > > I very seldome eat it myself, I quit eating meat to become a vegetarian > not to substitute it for something else.
