Guest guest
It's easy and efficient. It's pretty simple to bend a piece of pipe. An arch is very strong, and it's steep too so anything that falls onto it, rain, snow, leaves, will slide right off. I have a hoop house and I grow winter veggies in it because otherwise I would have to rely on canned or frozen (or not local) veggies. I can harvest every month of the year by following Elliot Coleman's method (love him!). There are a few people around here that have pentagonal (house shaped) greenhouses, and those are straight forward to build and cover, but they tend to accumulate too much snow up here and the roof sags under the weight, unless you cover it with glass or fiberglass, which cost a wicked lot more. So for me a light weight, portable hoop house covered with inexpensive 6 mil plastic that sheds snow and leaves and I don't worry if a branch breaks it (except when it does when I'm not home and my veggies freeze, but at least they aren't frozen and covered in broken glass) is the more efficient way to go.
