No gathering at my house goes by without one or two of these.

My friends daughter won first place with this in her home ec class. My stepson

(firefighter) makes these at the firehouse, my neighbors always tell me they

smell it baking. I also take one everywhere I'm invited and I take copies of the

recipe too.

If you can please give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Very old recipe of

my Gran's, only a few simple ingredients.

" Appelpaj " Swedish Apple Pie

4 to 5 med. apples Granny Smith or Gala peeled,

core & sliced (use 5 make it nice and full)

1 1/4 cups sugar (if using Gala apples reduce the

sugar to scant cup)

3 tsps. cinnamon

dash of cardamom (optional but I always use it)

3/4 cups butter or margarine (stick and a half)

1 cup flour

1 egg slightly beaten

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a pie pan

or glass pie plate.

Peel, core and slice apples and fill pie plate 3/4

full with slices.

Mix only 1/4 cup of the sugar and the cinnamon and

cardamom if used, mix well and sprinkle over the

apple slices.

In a small saucepan melt butter and remove from heat.

Add balance of sugar, flour and egg. Stir to mix

well. Pour over apples . Bake for 43 - 45 mins.

Note*

The crust forms and goes through the pie, it's really

a unique pastry. Serve hot with soy or regular ice

cream. Delicious cold too.

I use a 9 inch pie plate.

You can also use a fluted quiche dish.

Say a prayer for the common foot soldier

Spare a thought for his back breaking work

Say a prayer for his wife and his children

Who burn the fires and who still till the earth

This sounds very good; going to try this. My problem this year is what to

skip. Everything just sounds so good.
