Guest guest
I'll have to try this - i've never heard of Hijiki, i have some arame and wakame. I've only recently tried sea veggies, and I love them. Thanks for the recipe... just in time, because i just made some soy mayo --- On Fri, 11/21/08, rosetalleo <rosetalleo wrote: rosetalleo <rosetalleo Ocean and land salad - not tuna Friday, November 21, 2008, 8:24 PM This is the best not-tuna salad for me so far. Hijiki is probably the strongest most assertive tasting sea vegetable. It happened to be the only one in my fridge at the moment. It does not taste strong on this salad, however, you might want to substitute a milder sea veggie (arame, wakame, dulse, nori) if you prefer. Ocean and land salad - not tuna 1 can chickpeas (15 oz or so) 1 package firm nori mu tofu (14 oz) 1/4 cup dry hijiki (or other sea vegetable that you like - soaked for 10 minutes in boiling water to cover. Remove from soaking water and mince. 1/2 cup minced mixed parsley and scallions 1/4 cup minced pickes (I used equal parts beet, hot pepper and cucumber pickes) 1 minced bell pepper of any color 1 tbsp mustard of choice 1 tbsp chow chow or any sweet relish 1 tsp lemon pepper 1/4 cup minced celery (optional) 1 tsp tony chacharaze or other creole seasoning 2 tbsp veganaise or other mayonaise of choice 1 tbsp all i oli (or add some minced garlic) (optionsl) Salt to taste. Taste and adjust all seasonings to your taste, add more of something or the other.... Mash all ingredients with a potato masher until it has a spreading consistency. Makes great sandwiches.
