---The day before dinner prepare the following: Preferably in a

large

flat pan so that the bread pieces will dry better.

 

1 loaf of day old bread broken into bite size pieces

1 small onion chopped

2 celery stalks chopped

1 teaspoon dried sage

salt and pepper to taste

 

Toss so that all the ingregients are mixed. I *toss* the bread

pieces

later several times after that to help the drying out process.

Let stand over night.

 

The following day before baking add enough heated vegetable broth

mixed with two tablespoons butter or margarine to the bread pieces

so

that the bread is damp but not soggy.

 

Bake in an uncovered baking dish at 350 degrees for apx. 30 minutes

until the top is lightly brown .

 

Alternate recipe: chopped sauteed mushrooms and almond slices added

right before baking.
