Guest guest
The burners more than likely have automatic ignition and it's gone out. Mine went out burner by burner and I had to light each one with a match. I did this for over a year. I had the gas man out and he told me it's safe just be careful when you light them, he said it isn't worth trying to repair. You still need to have someone check this out for you. Gas is nothing to play with. Thankfully my DX bought me a new stove and it's a beautiful black one and each burner lights. That was a pain but you do what you have to do. (And I'd prefer not to deal with the complex maintenance department, for a variety of reasons!) I've been in this apartment (with the same gas stove) for 3 years, and only occasionally had trouble getting the burners to light. Usually, helping the burner along with a match is all that's needed, and that burner lights fine the next time. (I do always check to make sure the pilot light is still on.) I spilled water on the stove top -- grrr... -- and opened up the top to mop it up. Then, no lighting action. Both pilot lights are fine (I'm assuming that's what they are, there's one in between the left front and back burners and one in between the right front and back burners), but I just can't get ANY of the burners to light! Got one lit with a match, but it won't re-light. Any other tips on using a gas stove would be appreciated. I like it -- not so big on the gas oven that is really lopsided in baking ability! Thanks! Guest guest
The tubes from the pilot flame to the burners may be clogged or something. Can you get something to run through them? Also, can you hear gas coming out of your burners? You may need to increase your gas flow, and this is done outside at your tank. Guest guest
I'm remembering now that my dad had an old gas stove years ago that we had to light with matches. You're probably right, though, I'll call maintenance anyway. Maybe I'll end up with a new stove! Audrey S. Guest guest
I used to make a " rod " to go through them with a hanger. Blow the pilot light first. Then I pushed the rod through them. I even put a piece of gauze on the end to clean anything out. Gas is a rather dirty fuel and leaves deposits. Guest guest
I think I know what you mean. Yes, will blow the pilot light out first! I have a wire brush, I seem to remember seeing the maintenance guy scrape some part of the burner with a wire brush. I always put a cereal bowl upside-down over each burner before I use any liquid to clean the stovetop. I have a white stovetop, so that's something I do frequently, everything shows up on it! Guest guest
I never worried about it. I just left the burners and cleaned them???
